At Action for Justice and Human Rights (AJHR), we believe young people are not just the future, they are the now. Since 2016, our youth-led movement has driven bold, grassroots action to protect human rights, end sexual violence, and empower vulnerable communities across Liberia. From leading national protests to launching high school safety hubs and digital advocacy platforms, AJHR puts the power of change in the hands of the next generation. We’re raising voices, reshaping the conversation and culture around consent, and demanding justice, one action at a time.

Our Initiatives

A group of young girls and boys engaged in a conversation outdoors, with some girls wearing hijabs and school uniforms, and boys wearing black t-shirts, in a rural setting with trees and houses in the background.

Advocacy & Awareness

We raise awareness about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), child abuse, and early and forced marriage through national campaigns, school programs, community roundtables, and creative tools like forum theatre.

Our advocacy brings together survivors, students, workers, and local leaders, including police officers, court officials, and gender focal points, to build a shared understanding of rights and responsibilities. We are building a culture of zero tolerance for violence rooted in education, collaboration, and survivor-centered support.

Key Initiatives:

  • WeSay Change Project (Gbarpolu & Montserrado)

  • Community Forums & Awareness Sessions

  • Legal Literacy and School-Based Advocacy

  • “Unity in Action” Campaign to End SGBV

Empowerment & Leadership

We equip young people to become leaders in peacebuilding, justice, and violence prevention in their schools and communities. Through mentorship, we help students challenge harmful social norms and become advocates for equality and safety.

We also empower women through our Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups, providing them with the tools to achieve financial independence and support their families with dignity and resilience.

Key Programs:

  • Youth Mentorship to prevent violence and extremism

  • Women’s VSLA Groups in rural and urban communities

  • Life Skills & Rights Education for children and girls

  • Student-Led Safety Hubs promoting consent and protection

Safe Spaces & Survivor Support

We operate SGBV Safety Hubs in over 60 high schools across Montserrado County, creating safe environments where students can access information, report abuse, and receive the support they need.

In Gbarpolu, Bomi, and Montserrado, we work closely with trusted service providers — including hospitals, police, gender offices, and courts — to ensure survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) receive timely, trauma-informed care and justice.

Services Provided Through Partners:

  • Health Care & Post-Rape Treatment

  • Legal Support & Referrals

  • Coordination with Police, Courts & Child Protection Officers

  • Advocacy for Systemic Justice Reform

Join the Movement. Be the Change.

Every voice matters. Every action counts. At Action for Justice and Human Rights (AJHR), we believe silence in the face of violence is a form of oppression. We believe in a Liberia where children are safe, women are empowered, and justice is for all.

Whether you're a student, advocate, parent, partner, or survivor, there’s a place for you in this movement. Stand with us. Speak out. Take action.
